Wilbur E. Fifield
Wilbur E. Fifield, 79, a longtime resident of Northfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, with his wife by his side. He was born in Franklin on January 5, 1944 the son of the late Elmer C. and Edith (Brett) Fifield.
Wilbur was a graduate of Tilton-Northfield High School, class of 1960. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Forrestal, our country’s first super aircraft carrier.
After his discharge Wilbur worked in the Woolen Mills in the Monadnock Region of NH, for St. Johnsbury Trucking in Vermont where he worked on the loading docks, then for Mayo Roofing in Concord until his last place of employment, Freudenberg, NOK where he retired in 2006.
Many people knew Wilbur either by his metal and junk collecting or his blue truck that he always drove around the Tilton-Northfield areas. We will all miss him dearly. Especially his nephew, Michael George, who helped his Uncle scrap metal.
Wilbur was predeceased by his parents and by his 8 sisters, Gertrude Fifield, Melba Fogg, Helen Fogg, Dawn Woods, Ruth Vachon, Eva Heath, Lena Savage and Florence Bernard.
His family includes his wife of 37 years, Susan P. (Vorce) Fifield of Northfield, his three children, his step son, Carl Bullock of Penacook, daughter in law, Samantha Fifield of Laconia and his grandchildren; Patrick and Anna. He is also survived by his two sisters; Marion St. Jacques and Rosalie Philibert and her husband Robert both of Franklin, his brother Harry Fifield Sr. of Stoddard and his two sisters-in-law; Sharon and her husband Jim Pluff of Hopkinton and Sharlene Hardy and her partner Karen McCracken of Concord. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
According to Wilbur’s wishes there will be no calling hours held. However a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 4 – 6 PM at the Franklin VFW, Post 1698 in Franklin.
