Sandra J. Flanders

Sandra (Jacques) Flanders Sandra J. Flanders, 82, a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born in Franklin on July 9, 1942, daughter of the late Eugene and Gertrude R. (Elliott) Jacques. Sandi left Franklin in 2010, to live in Rotonda West, Florida, where she enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful weather. Sandi had spent her youth in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School, class of 1960. She went on to study at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord. She was employed for over 40 years at New England Telephone and later Verizon as a Station Assigner. She worked tirelessly to provide a wide area and extended telephone service, going door to door with a petition campaign, gathering over 3000 signatures. Sandi worked with Katherine Gile of Sanbornton to account for this feat, providing the local toll-free area. She was a member and past vice president of the Jasper Keller Telephone Pioneers of America and also served as member at large and on various other committees. Sandi was active with the City of Franklin, serving as supervisor of the checklist and ward clerk for Ward Two. She served on the Franklin Cemetery Association. Sandi loved being a Foster Grandparent at Bessie Rowell School. Sandi belonged to the Laconia Rod & Gun Club. Sandi was a member of the Tilton United Methodist Church. Her fondness for animals led her to be the founding president of the Granite State Animal League and supervised the Franklin Animal Shelter. She was also active with the “Save the Greyhounds” petition, collecting over 3000 signatures to stop greyhound racing in the Granite State. She volunteered with the Humane Society and ran several fundraising events as chairperson. Sandi also ran many auctions for the Granite State Animal League and the New Hampshire Humane Society, which raised large amounts of money, and worked non-stop to collect items and sell advertising for auction brochures. She had many animals over the years, including her cats Blackie, Tiger, Ozzie, Duchess, Camille, and her most beloved, Magic; her dogs Asia, Sabbath and Jake, and her Collies, Baretta and Sir Laddie. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael Jacques, who died in 1998. Her surviving family includes her daughter, Kelly, and her grandchildren, Tempestt, Nikko and Caleb. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Smart Memorial Home, 584 West Main St., Tilton, NH. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Tilton- Northfield United Methodist Church, 440 West Main St., Tilton. Burial will be in the spring in Franklin Cemetery in Franklin.
