Ronald Lionel Corriveau

Canterbury Ronald Lionel Corriveau died peacefully, surrounded by family and close friends, at his home on Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Canterbury, New Hampshire at the age of 73. Ron was born on November 13, 1941 in Franklin, New Hampshire to Lionel T. and Valeda (Landry) Corriveau. Ron graduated Franklin High School in 1959 and subsequently attended Franklin Pierce University in Concord. On June 15, 1963 Ron and Ruth (Theinert) were married and he began his service in the United States Army Reserves, until his honorable discharge in 1968. In the following years the couple welcomed two children, Laurel and Sean, into their family in Canterbury and grandson Jonathan in 1990. Ron was an accomplished businessman, dedicated father and grandfather, and loving husband. He was well known in his community as he owned the Canterbury Country Store before starting his own Federal firearms and sporting goods business, the Canterbury Trading Company. Ron devoted much of his time volunteering. He was a member of the Canterbury Conservation Commission and was instrumental in preserving valuable land and bodies of water in Canterbury. Ron served for several years on the Canterbury Planning Board and for the Canterbury Fair. Ron was a board member of the Merrimack County Adult Diversion, Bridge and Pretrial Release program and received a certificate of appreciation for ten years of dedicated service to the Merrimack County Office of Criminal Justice Alternatives Advisory Board. An avid sportsman, Ron held various positions on local committees, including Director of Gun Owners of New Hampshire; Lifetime member of the Sunset Mountain Fish and Game Club in Canterbury; Life and Patron member of the National Rifle Association; member of Ducks Unlimited; Director of Gun Owners of New Hampshire; board member of NH Fish and Game Operation Game Thief. Ron was a hunter safety instructor, for which he received a Certificate of Merit from NH Fish and Game for contributing 20 years to hunter safety and education. He was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla (Corriveau) Elliott. Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth M. (Theinert) Corriveau, children, Laurel and Sean, grandson, Jonathan, cousins Elaine Nichols and Judie Tarasco; nephew Edwin Elliott, a niece and many cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Ron's life, Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ron�s name to support cancer research at the New Hampshire Cancer Society or the Moffitt Cancer Center, both of which provided Ron with exemplary medical care during his illness. Donations may also be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association, Hospice Unit, 30 Pillsbury St, Concord, NH 03301, for providing continued care for cancer patients. The Corriveau family would like to thank the Hospice Nursing Staff from the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, for their care and dedication in making Ron comfortable in his home over the past months; thanks to Dr. Douglas Weckstein for his many years of specialized care; and special thanks to Ron�s long time best friend Bob Bunnell and good friend Jim Lenihan who both visited Ron daily for the past month.
