Tilton, NH Robert Fitzgibbons, 90, passed away on Wednesday, Nov 8, 2017. He was born in Lynn, MA on August 9, 1927. He was the son of Priscilla (Salois) and Joseph Fitzgibbons. He served in the United States Navy Seabees in WWII. After he married he was a resident of Saugus, MA. He served as a Saugus Police Officer and for many years owned and operated Fitzgibbons Heating & Oil in Saugus for many years. Prior to his retirement he was employed at the Salem Hospital in Salem, MA, where he was in charge of the power plant. He retired to his Silver Lake home in Tilton, NH and in later years moved to the Holiday Suites in Dover, NH . Bob was involved in many organizations over the years. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Saugus, MA, and a member of the Knights of Columbus #11868 in Tilton, served as president of the Wildwood Acres Association, and presided over the Seabee Island X-4 of Laconia, NH for many years. As a life-long Red Sox fan, a summer was not complete without following each game on the radio or TV. He also loved outdoor landscaping and gardening. And, when the work was done, always enjoyed his reward of a strong Manhattan in the peaceful woods of NH. He was married to his beloved wife Dorothy (Deveau) Fitzgibbons for 66 years until her death in 2015. Bob is survived by his son Robert L. Fitzgibbons and his wife Susan of Peabody, MA, his daughter Jane E. LeBlanc and her husband Phil, their son Justin of New Durham, NH, and his two sisters Claire Lees of Lynn, MA and Janet Nadeau of Salem, MA and his brother Francis Fitzgibbons of Saint Marys, Georgia. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Tilton-Franklin Road, (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church of St. Gabriel Parish on Chestnut St. Tilton. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire 03303. Memorial donations in memory of Bob may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Association to P.O. Box 626, Concord, NH 03302-0626.
