Tilton Rachel J. (Faloon) Glidden Rachel J. Glidden, 98, a longtime resident of Tilton, died Friday, July 28, 2017 following a period of failing health. Rachel was born in Winn, Maine, October 16, 1918, daughter of Claude and Bessie (Ireland) Faloon. She moved to Tilton in 1945. She was employed for over 20 years with the former Tilton Dress Shop in Franklin and the Tilton Endless Belt Shop in Tilton for 10 years. Rachel was a member of the International Garments Union. She was a lifelong active member of the Northfield-Tilton Congregational Church in Tilton. Following her retirement, she served as a Foster Grandparent at the Paul Smith School in Franklin for over 21 years, retiring from there at the age of 91. During her younger years, Rachel enjoyed deer hunting. In 2016 she was honored by the Town of Tilton with the presentation of the Boston Post Cane. She was the oldest resident of Tilton to ever receive the Cane. She was invited to ride in the Old Home Day Parade in a convertible with the banner for "Boston Post Cane" outside. Rachel's daughter Ann Glidden attributed her mother's longevity to staying active. She and her mom walked often at the local mall and Rachel continued to care for her own chores and housekeeping into her late nineties. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Glidden who died in 1976. Rachel leaves, Her son, Claude V. Glidden of Littleton, Colorado Daughters, Betty L. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. Burial will be in the family lot at Park Cemetery in Tilton. Expressions of Sympathy may be made in Rachel's name to the "Friends Program", 202 North State St., Concord, NH 03301.
