Northfield Myrna Joan (Brock) Tenney Myrna J. Tenney, 79, a longtime resident of Northfield died September 1, 2015 at her home with her niece and caregiver, Cindy Dickinson, at her side. Myrna was born in Old Hill Village, January 23, 1936, daughter of the late Elmer H. and Angie M. (Ackerman) Brock. In 1940, she moved with her family to Franklin, where she resided until moving to Northfield in 1981. Myrna attended Franklin Schools and graduated from Franklin High School, class of 1954. In 1956, she married Rodney W. Tenney. In addition to being a neighborhood babysitter for many years, she worked at the former Griffin Drug Store , as a salad chef at the former Log Cabin Colony Association on Webster Lake and also was employed at the former Gile's Dairy Bar, all of Franklin. Later in her career Myrna sold advertising for the former Franklin Journal Transcript. She and her husband Rodney owned and operated Tenney's Gift Shop, also in Franklin. She was a former member of the Franklin BPW where she served in offices of corresponding secretary and treasurer. Myrna was an active member of the Franklin United Methodist Church for over 66 years, teaching Sunday School for 33 years and served on other committees in the church at one time or another. Myrna and Rodney loved each other, their family and their country. They approached life with a remarkable, positive attitude and had a deep appreciation of life. They loved the outdoors, flowers, gardening and animals. She never lived for long without one or two stray cats of which was an important part of her life. In recent years, she shared the love of "Lily", the cat next door with her beloved neighbors, Dan and Denise King. In addition to her husband of 47 years, Rodney W. Tenney of Northfield who died in 2003, she was predeceased by her brother, Elmer Brock of Tilton, sister, Anne Brock Dickinson of Franklin and sister, Phyllis Brock Mosher of Franklin and sister Marion Brock Colburn of Port Richey, FL. She leaves; cousins, nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin, corner of Franklin and School Streets. Officiating will be church pastor, Preston Fuller and former pastor Carol Cray. A Time of Fellowship and Celebration of Myrna's life will follow the service in the lower level of the church. Interment will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 2:30 PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen with her husband Rodney. Those wishing may make contributions in Myrna's name to the Franklin United Methodist Church Memorial Fund for the "Stained Class Window Repair" in care of the financial secretary, 88 Franklin St., Franklin, NH 03235 or to the New Hampshire Humane Society, P. O. Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247.
