Gilmanton Murray Allen Fay Murray A. Fay, 69, a resident of Gilmanton for over 16 years died Monday, September 5, 2016 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia following a period of failing health. Murray was born in Laconia, July 17, 1947, son of the late James and Arline (Meserve) Fay. He lived in the Northfield-Tilton area 53 years before moving to Gilmanton. Murray retired in 2002 as a biologist with the New Hampshire Fish and Game following 37 years of employment. He worked with animal and fish populations, stocking of NH waterways, NH deer and moose check stations and Fish and Game signage in the state. He enjoyed volunteering and for many years, helped with the Tilton-Northfield Rotary Club Children's Fishing Derby in Tilton, held each year at the Tilton School Pond. Murray also worked for several years in the maintenance department at the St. Francis Home following his retirement from NH Fish and Game. He schooled in Tilton and graduated from the Tilton-Northfield High School, class of 1965. Murray served from 1966 to 1969 in the U. S. Army, discharged as a Sgt (T). He served honorably with the 663d Transportation Company, Fort Eustis, Virginia as a Stock Control and Accounting Specialist during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed the outdoors, watching and listening to the�birds and hunting and fishing over the years. Murray enjoyed�spending time with family and friends and was known as the�"master of the grill" !! In addition to his parents, Murray was predeceased by a brother, James Fay. He leaves his significant other and companion for over 17 years, Phyllis L. (Jewell) Clairmont of Gilmanton Daughters, Michelle Fay of Gloucester, MA and Laura Ordway of Wells, ME Son, Nathan Fay of Portsmouth, NH Brother, Thomas Fay and his wife Sue of Zolfo Springs, FL Sister, Dorcas Norton and her husband, Peter of Hudson, FL Three grandchildren and nieces and nephews Others dear to Murray are Phyllis' children, Nancy Willis of Burlington, VT and Cindy Fillion of Gilmanton Calling hours will be Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 P. M. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. A brief committal service with military honors will be held, Monday, September 12th @ 11:00 A. M. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery 110 D. W. Highway, in Boscawen, NH with burial following.
