Mildred Jean (Black) Sullivan
Jean Sullivan, 90, a resident of the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, passed away there after a brief illness on Friday, October 13, 2023. She was born in Orange, NJ on October 21, 1932 the daughter of Archibald and Mildred (Hymen) Black.
Jean worked for the Bank of New England in Boston until her husband’s passing in 1974. She was suddenly the sole supporter of her young children. Having never driven, she quickly picked up the necessary skills and was often called upon to be “mom’s taxi”, while also working fulltime as the Office Manager at K-Mart in Portsmouth.
Following her retirement she worked as a foster grandparent and as a Eucharistic Minister well into her 80’s. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
Jean was a former Supervisor of the checklist for the City of Franklin and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband who she married in 1951; Joseph Russell Sullivan, a son; Matthew Sullivan, a grandson; Russell Sullivan, her sister; Helen Gagne and her two brothers; William and Donald Black.
Her family includes, her seven daughters; Laurie Davis of Derry, Betsy and her husband Jerry Anderson of Wakefield, Cathy and her husband Tony DiCampo of Derry, Stephanie Lane of West Roxbury, MA, Jeannette Pratt and her husband Orman Hall of Dover, NH, Toni and Richard Belair of Franklin and Sharon and her husband Scot Holt of N. Woodstock. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, her 2 sister-in-laws; Barbara Sullivan of Concord and Charlotte Sullivan of Cape Cod, MA and nieces and nephews
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Smart Memorial Home, 584 West Main St., Tilton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Parish, 96 Main St., Belmont, with a reception to follow downstairs. Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
