Michael Summersett, a beloved resident of Northfield, NH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 25, 1952, Michael was a pillar of the Northfield community, contributing much of his life and skills to the town he adored.

Michael proudly served as the Public Works Director for the Town of Northfield, enriching the community with his dedication and skillset. Before becoming the director, he made history as Tilton-Northfield's first full-time firefighter, dedicating 32 years as a mechanic, safety officer, and esteemed Captain of Engine 1.

In his personal life, Michael was once chairman of the Tilton-Northfield Old Home Day committee and a longtime member of the Son's of the American Legion Post #49. He also enjoyed spending countless hours on his tractors haying fields and rototilling gardens.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Havumaki, his stepfather, Robert "Bob" Havumaki, His brother in-law, Bob Isabelle, and sister in-law, Maryann Witham. He is survived by his loving family who meant the world to him: his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce (Isabelle) Summersett, his daughter Andrea Summersett and her fiancé Ronnie Labranche, son Michael P. Summersett, and cherished grandchildren Jakob M. Summersett, Jason D. Taft, and Lydia Labranche. Additionally, he is mourned by his brother-in-law Wayne Huckins, and his dear stepsisters Barbara Havumaki and Linda Reader.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to pay their respects at a visitation held at Smart Memorial Home, 584 West Main St. in Tilton, NH, on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Park Cemetery in Tilton, NH, following the hours at 2:30 pm, where Michael will be laid to rest.

In Mike's passing, Northfield loses not only a dedicated public servant but also a friend to many and a man whose hands shaped the community as his heart warmed it. He will be remembered for his unwavering service, commitment to his family, and the tangible impact he left behind.
