Marion Frances (Woodward) Gokey

Tilton Marion Frances (Woodward) Gokey Marion F. Gokey, 92, a resident of Tilton since 1998, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen following a short period of failing health. Marion was born in Hill, July 2, 1925, daughter of Ross and Doris (Mosher) Woodward. She moved to Franklin following Hill's loss of Old Hill Village, and the construction of the Franklin Falls Dam. She spent her youth and schooled in Franklin. She lived there until moving to Senior Housing in Tilton. Marion was employed at the Sulloway Hosiery Mill at the age of 16 and worked until its' closure. She later worked at the Cormier Hosiery Mill for 28 years. Marion worked as a cook in the food service department at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, from 1984 until her retirement in 1995. Family was Marion's life. She had a great fondness for traveling (especially by train) , often traveling to Utah and other states. An accomplished seamstress she enjoyed sharing her creations with others which included her cooking and baking abilities. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post #1698 in Franklin, serving as president from 1972 until becoming a life member in 1973. She always kept veterans in mind and how they were being treated. In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Robert R. Gokey in 2000, brothers, Herbert and Ralph Woodward and sister Dorothy M. (Woodward) Bartlett. She leaves her brother, Harold Woodward and his wife Louise of Franklin Numerous generational nieces and nephews A Calling hour will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. A service will follow the calling hour at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in the family lot in Franklin Cemetery, Thompson Park in Franklin. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Marion's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, National Processing Center at P.O. Box 758540, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8540.
