Margaret Alice Greenwood, a lifetime resident of Belmont, NH, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. Born on April 16, 1937, to Francis and Druzella Milmore, Margaret was a beacon of kindness and compassion, known for her selfless love for family and community.
Margaret worked for 10 years with the State of New Hampshire, where her dedication and leadership left a lasting impact. Beyond her accomplishments, Margaret's true joy was found in the great outdoors. She cherished every moment spent hunting, fishing, and camping, instilling a love for nature in her children.
A devoted mother, Margaret raised four children with love and unwavering support. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family, embracing the role of caregiver and mentor to numerous other children in her community. Her door was always open, her heart always welcoming, reminding everyone of the importance of kindness and generosity.
Margaret is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Raymond V. Greenwood of Belmont, NH, his beloved sons, Clifford F. Greenwood of Afton, NY, Clayton D. Greenwood of Stark, NH, and David Staples of Tampa, FL; her cherished daughters, Susan M. DeAvilla and Peggy Sue Greenwood, both of Belmont, NH; and her much-loved grandchildren, Emily and Amanda Greenwood of Afton, NY, Kimberly Maines of Belmont, NH and Karyne Rettke of Bow, NH and great grandchildren, Hunter and Margaret Rettke of Bow, NH. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Druzella Milmore, her brother Dennis Milmore, and her sister Rose E. Mummert.
The family invites friends and loved ones to gather for calling hours on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Smart Memorial Home, 584 West Main St., Tilton, NH. A graveside service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Margaret will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire us.
