Northfield Malcolm T. Pickering Sr. Malcolm T. Pickering Sr., 86, a resident of Northfield for most of his life, died January 1, 2014 at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Manchester after a period of failing health. He was born in Franklin, November 29, 1927 the son of Edwin and Ethel (Prescott) Pickering, youngest of 16 children. Malcolm was a graduate of the Tilton-Northfield High School. He was employed as a truck driver for several area businesses including Aranco Oil Company in Concord, RD Edmunds in Franklin, Pike Industries in Tilton and retired in 1989 from Gilbert Block in Laconia. He also worked for the Town of Tilton Highway Department for a short time. Malcolm was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as an Intercept Radio Operator during WW II, later U.S. Air Force Veteran, during the Vietnam Conflict. Combining his service with the National Guard and Air Force Reserves, Malcolm served his country for over 29 years. He loved the outdoors and was a member of the American Legion Post #49 in Northfield. He was predeceased by all of his siblings. His family includes: His wife of 57 years: Gloria L. Sr. and his wife Deborah Pickering of Hill Todd B. and his wife Cindy Pickering of Belmont Grandchildren: Corey, Raichee, Taylor, Clay, Trinda, Nicholas, Aaron, Vera (USAF) Carl Jr., Teri and Chris Great-grandchildren: Dillion, Brady, Lilah, Tyler and Jackson Nieces and nephews Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A spring graveside service with military honors will be held at Park Cemetery in Tilton.
