Judith O. Merriam

Judith O. Merriam, 79, a resident of Franklin since 2004 died suddenly at her home, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 following a short illness.  Judith was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, January 12, 1939, daughter of the late, Guido and Rose (Daltario) Ottaviani.  She spent her youth and schooled in Framingham and graduated in 1956 from Framingham High School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Plymouth State College in 1982.

She worked her way from waitressing while raising four children to being a Librarian, getting her degree, and becoming a Certified Public Accountant.  Judith partially retired from Charter Trust in Concord where she was a Comptroller.

Judith loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting and traveling to many places like Hawaii, India, Ireland, and Italy where her family’s roots lie.

She volunteered as a hospice at the Franklin VNA and a Trustee at the Franklin and Laconia Libraries.

Judith was a parishioner of St. Paul Church of St. Gabriel Parish in Franklin.

She leaves behind her beloved family of:

Son, Joseph G. Merriam and his wife, Sharri Goodwin of Franklin.

Son, Stephen S. Merriam of Sanbornton with his children, Spencer, Charlotte Steele.

Daughter, Kathleen Surowiec and her husband, Stephen of Sanbornton.  Grandchildren, McKayla Shaw, Monica Raymond, Stephania Surowiec. Great Grandchildren, Devon and Bennett Shaw

Daughter, Elizabeth A. Sankaran and her husband, Nanda of Northville, MI with their children, Maya and Indira.

Her brother Guido Ottaviani and sisters Jeanne Ottaviani and Donna O. Sexton survive Judith along with many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are on Thursday, March 22 5-7 PM at William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Tilton.

A Mass to celebrate Judith’s life will be held Friday, March 23 at 10 am in St. Paul Church of St. Gabriel Parish, School St. in Franklin.

Burial will be held later in the spring when weather permits.

Those wishing to may make memorial contributions in Judith’s name may donate to the Franklin VNA & Hospice or to a library of their choice.
