Inez Alaliah St. Valentine (Potter) Marshall
Inez A. Marshall, 93, a resident of Tilton and formerly of Belmont, died on Friday, December 22, 2023 after a brief illness at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, where she was a resident for the past 3 years.
She was born on February 14, 1930 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Homer and Lulu (Ritchie) Potter. She graduated Valedictorian from The Annapolis Royal Academy and attended Normal College in Nova Scotia. After marrying M. Robert Marshall on May 3, 1950, she moved to the United States where she became a naturalized citizen on August 16, 1955.
Among her life’s accomplishments, Inez sold Avon products for over 20 years and won many awards for her number of sales. She was the receptionist and secretary for the Senior Center, part of the Community Action Program, in Laconia. Inez was a long time member of the 1st Baptist Church of Belmont, where she was an active member of the Belmont Church Ladies Circle also serving in various church positions over the years. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Ministries of NH/VT, serving as secretary for many years. Inez loved to go fishing, knit, crochet, paint, write poetry, play the piano, guitar and sing.
She was predeceased by her husband M. Robert Marshall who died on March 9, 1989, two older sisters, Geraldine Smith and Velma Fergusson and younger brother, Wayne Potter. She is survived by her daughters: Linda D. Wickstrom of Tilton, NH, Melanie L. and husband, Emile Shaw of East Andover, NH, Robin G. Marshall Aldrich of Upton, ME, and her son Robert H. and wife, Jackie Marshall of Franklin, NH. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Erin (Shaw) Renfors, Jill (Shaw) Hodges, Jennifer (Aldrich) Jordan, Tyler Aldrich, Kira Scardina, Dessiree (Marshall) Mullins, and Crystal Russo as well as 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
It was Inez’s wish that there be no calling hours. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Andover Community Church, 5 Chase Hill Road, East Andover, NH. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the cemetery on South Road in Belmont.
