It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Edward Chaffee Jr., who left us on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at the age of 79. George was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend who enriched the lives of those around him with his kindness and dedication.

Born on Friday, July 19th, 1946, in Stafford Springs, CT, George grew up with a strong sense of family and community values. He later moved to Tilton, NH, where he resided until his passing.

George's career as a machinist at Webster Valve highlighted his commitment to precision and quality. His diligence and skill also led him to serve as a quality control specialist within the company. Additionally, George dedicated a portion of his career to public service as a correction officer at the County Jail in Boscawen, where he was respected for his fairness and integrity.

A proud veteran, George served his country in the United States Army, an experience that profoundly shaped his character and dedication to service.

George had an enduring passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and 4-wheeling, hanging out in his shed enjoying a few beers with his kids, grandkids and friends, wood working and playing horseshoes, pastimes that brought him joy and serenity.

He is lovingly survived by his devoted spouse of 54 years, Victoria Lee Chaffee; his children, Clinton E. Chaffee and his wife Lisa, George E. Chaffee and his wife Stephanie, Christopher Chaffee and his wife Danielle, and Dawn Chaffee, his 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and 1 great grandson. He is also survived by his siblings: Jim Chaffee, Otis Chaffee, Gloria Zink, Kathleen Seville, Wendy Hunt, and Laura Zink and many cousins, nephews, sisters and brothers in law and friends, all of whom cherished him deeply.

George is preceded in death by his parents, George E. Chaffee Sr. and Alice Chaffee, his beloved son Dean Chaffee, and his brother Bill Chaffee.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate George's life, honoring the legacy of love and dedication he leaves behind. Arrangements are provided by Smart Memorial Home, a testament to the care and consideration he afforded to all his relationships in life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in George's memory to a charity of your choice, continuing his legacy of giving and community care.
