Tilton Foster Dow Peverly Longtime Auctioneer Foster D. Peverly, 85, a longtime and well respected auctioneer and appraiser in NH died suddenly, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Retreat at Golden View in Meredith, NH where he was receiving therapy following hip surgery. Foster was born in Canterbury, NH August 23, 1928, son of George and Leola (Houser) Peverly. He spent his youth and was schooled in Canterbury. Foster later lived in Vermont, Laconia and finally Tilton for the remainder of his life. During his youth Foster worked with his father, who at the time owned the George D. Peverly Auctioneer Company and kept the family farm. He then worked with Public Service Company of New Hampshire as a lineman and in the stock room for several years, after which he worked for fifteen years with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Laconia as a sales agent. In the 1970�s Foster continued in the auction/appraisal business and formed his company, F. D. Peverly and Sons, which he was still currently involved with. During his years as an auctioneer he enjoyed the privilege of serving as President of the NH Auctioneer's Association and on the state Board of Auctioneers.in addition to spending many hours doing charity auctions for various groups. Over the years he was also involved in many aspects of real estate including development, rental properties, and sales by the auction method. He was a longtime member and chairman of the Tilton Zoning Board. Foster was instrumental with the forming of the Town of Tilton School Funding Committee, serving as a member. Foster served on the Winnisquam School District Budget Committee, and its District Funding Committee. While his children were growing up in Laconia he was active with the local sporting activities. He was a hunter and lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and a strong advocate for gun rights. One of his greatest joys was to be in the woods, hunting or just to be there. Foster kept close contact with friends in the Canterbury community and the goings on there. He was an active member of the Canterbury Historical Museum. His writings were acknowledged in the Canterbury book, �As I've Heard Tell.��His family includes, his wife of 32 years, Shirley A. (LaPointe) Peverly of Tilton, four sons, John F. Peverly and his wife Carolyn of Belmont, Gregory J. Peverly and his wife Deborah of Northfield , Richard A. Peverly and his significant other Renee of Center Harbor, Kevin J. Peverly and his wife Kathy of Meredith and his daughter: Diane Rooney of Shelburne, VT He also had thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His sister:�Nora Peverly of Burlington, Vermont and one nephew Following the wishes of Foster, there are no calling hours planned. A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery in Canterbury where he will be buried alongside his parents.
