Elvin “Al” R. Witham, 82, a former resident of Northfield, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen. Al was born in Pepperell, MA on August 12, 1941, son of the late George and Helen (Gilman) Witham.
Al lived in Boscawen for a time during his younger years where his parents lived while working at the Merrimack County Farm, now the Merrimack County Nursing Home. He had lived in Northfield for most of his adult life. Al was a longtime truck driver, working for the Ken Nutter Construction Company for 28 years and retiring from Andrew Construction Company following 14 years of employment. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Al was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 48 years, Carol Ann (Bell) Witham who died in 2011, three sisters, Alma Witham and Linda Roberts and Nancy Brown and a brother, Richard Witham.
His family includes his daughter, Debra J. Jameson of Northfield, his son, John E. Witham and his wife JoAnne of Laconia, his three grandchildren, Matthew Witham, his wife Sarah and their children; Austin and Ellie, Suzanne, her husband Matt and their daughter Rylee and Kayla Jameson and her son Braydin, his brothers, George Witham Jr. of Northfield and David and his wife Georgette Witham of Webster, his sister, Janet Rand and her husband Charlie of Loudon and numerous nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, August 13 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Smart Memorial Home, 584 West Main St. Tilton. A funeral service will follow the hours at 11:00. Burial will then follow the service in Maple Grove Cemetery in Canterbury.
