Edna M. (Norquist) Carignan

Franklin Edna M. (Norquist) Carignan Edna M. Carignan, 97, a longtime resident of Franklin, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen following a short period of failing health. Born in Worchester, MA, December 2, 1917, Edna, known by many as �Sparkle�, was the daughter of Oscar and Anna (Johnson) Norquist. She was a graduate of Concord High School, class of 1935. She spent most of her adult life in Franklin. She worked for several years at the former Mica Shop in Franklin. Following her husband�s death she worked at the Beede Electric in Penacook prior to her retirement. She later spent her time as a homemaker. For many years she enjoyed her role as a foster grandparent at the Union Sanborn School in Northfield. Edna was a member of the PTO when her children were in school. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her chocolate chip �treasures�. She enjoyed crafts and each year made hundreds of Christmas Mice, sharing with family, friends and those with newborns. Family was most important in Edna�s life and would become so excited to see and spend time with her grand and great-grandchildren when they came to visit, always ready to provide ice cream cones. She looked forward to her trips to Old Orchard and York Beach, Maine over the years. She was predeceased by her husband, Auguste E. Carignan who died in 1970, grandson, Peter Jr., and her daughter, Joyce C. Beaupre. Her family includes, sons, Douglas H. Carignan of Pompano Beach, FL, Peter J. Carignan of Franklin and John P. Carignan of Summerville, SC daughters, Elaine M. Kinne and Marcia J. Rollins, both of Salisbury 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grand and a great, great-grandchild. sister, Doris Alexander of Concord many nieces and nephews A calling hour will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with a service following at 1:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Edna's name to the Edna McKenna Fund, (for resident activity fund) C/O the Merrimack County Nursing Home, 325 D. W. Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303 or instead of flowers, it would bring great joy to Edna if you would take a child out for an ice cream cone.
