Derek S Hunt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Derek S. Hunt, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Derek, aged 52, of Tilton, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully after a long battle with ALS on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Born in Medford, Massachusetts, on a chilly Thursday, February 24, 1972, Derek moved to Tilton, New Hampshire, where he spent many happy years contributing to his community and raising his family. A devoted truck driver, Derek was employed by Benson Lumber, where his colleagues remember him as a hardworking and dedicated team member. Derek's passion for football was unparalleled, whether it was playing, watching, or coaching. He served as an assistant coach at Winnisquam Regional High School from 2008 to 2018, and as head coach from 2018 to 2020. His leadership led the team to an unforgettable undefeated season in 2019 and he also had the honor of coaching the NH vs VT Shriners Maple Sugar Bowl game. He is survived by his loving mother, Ann (Birt) Hunt; his cherished sons, Austin Hunt and Gregory Hunt and his girlfriend Caroline Kallenberg; his sister Karen Ianniciello and her husband Elio and his brother Paul Hunt and his wife Jennifer; brother-in-law Todd Corey and his wife Michele. Derek was also a proud uncle to Krista Bonetti, Jacob Hunt, Samantha Ianniciello, Bryce Corey, and Alyssa Hunt. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Hunt Sr., and his wife, Shari Hunt, whose memories he held dear. Friends and family are invited to gather at a visitation at Smart Memorial Home, 584 West Main St. in Tilton on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the same location, where we will pay homage to Derek's incredible journey and the indelible impact he made on those around him. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Tilton. Derek will be deeply missed, and his legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for football will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The family suggests omitting flowers and instead, send donations in his name to the Winnisquam Football Boosters or the Winnisquam Baseball Boosters, through the Winnisquam High School, in care of Fred Caruso, 435 West Main St., Tilton, NH 03276.
