LACONIA Denis G. OMara Denis G. O'Mara, 84, died March 31, 2016 at Forestview Manor in Meredith after a long illness. Denis was born June 7, 1931 in Laconia, the son of the late Arnold J. and Diana (Bergeron) O'Mara. He attended St. Johns School and graduated from Laconia High School in 1949 and Tilton Academy in 1950. He attended the University of New Hampshire for a short time, subsequently enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Laconia. He worked as an assistant engineer with the Laconia Board of Public Works and transitioned over to the State of New Hampshire, working as an environmental engineer supervising water and sewage treatment plants in the Laconia and Franklin area, retiring from the state in 1993. He married Daulette (Pestonji) O'Mara in 1964 and they were happily married for 47 years. He and his wife were parishioners of St. Josephs Church in Laconia. Denis was a man of great character putting his own needs aside to help anyone in need. He was a man of many hobbies during his life time: snowmobiling, a car enthusiast with convertible being his favorite, gardening, motorcycling, long leisurely scenic drives, tinkering with anything ( a real fix it yourself kind of guy) and so much more. Perhaps his greatest enjoyment was being with his beloved wife Daulette, Dolly to those who knew her. They truly loved and respected one another and lived life to the fullest. Deni was a loyal family member. During his father, Arnold OMaras long illness, Deni provided support and compassion to his father and mother Diana. His devotion to his parents never wavered. As well, during Daulettes long illness he stood by her side daily, providing her comfort, conversation, and companionship. Deni (and Daulette) were both extremely charitable. They had a deep love for all animals, especially dogs. They owned many cocker spaniels. They were great supporters of the Humane Society. As well, The Salvation Army was also near and dear to their hearts. To make a difference in the lives of others was always important to them. He is survived by his nephew, Thomas L. Talty of Harker Heights, TX, his cousin Richard Vigneault of Shrewsbury, MA, very close friend Laurie Martines of North Chelmsford, MA who was like a daughter to him, Perin Jessup of London, England, Wendy Gibbons and her husband, Stanley, of Montreal, Canada, and numerous nieces and nephew on his wifes side of the family. He was the brother of the late Ellen Talty, uncle of the late Catherine Talty and brother in law of the late Thomas B. Talty. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia where Denis will rest with his late wife, Daulette and other members of his family. A luncheon will follow at 2pm at Hectors Restaurant in Laconia N.H. Arrangements are under the care of the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton.
