Franklin Charles Frederick Ames C. Frederick Ames, 95, a longtime resident of Franklin, died June 28, 2017 at the Golden Crest Community in Franklin following a period of failing health. "Fred" (as he was known) was born in Peterborough, NH, November 15, 1921, son of Charles and Addie (Stockwell) Ames. Fred schooled and lived in Peterborough and graduated from high school there. While living in Peterborough, Fred worked as a file clerk for the American Guernsey Cattle Club.. He attended night school, receiving credits in welding-lathe and forge classes. He moved to Contoocook and lived there from 1954 until his move to Franklin in 1968. He and his family lived on Pine St. for many years. He enlisted, and served honorably with the United States Coast Guard from 1942 until 1946 as a Motor Machinist Mate Second Class during WW II. He was employed for over 37 years with Public Service Company of NH, retiring as north-central district operational assistant. He and his family enjoyed time spent at their camp on Sunset Lake in Greenfield. He enjoyed woodworking and wood carving. He made sure the bird feeders were full as he enjoyed watching the birds come to them. Fred had a gift to gab and enjoyed sharing his sense of humor with others and numerous limericks, which were many! He and his late wife, Becky enjoyed their neighbors and staff at the Golden Crest. Fred remained there following his wife's death. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" (Parrott) Ames, September 1, 2011. He leaves, His daughter, Sally A. Michel and her husband, Robert of Hopkinton Sons, David W. Ames and his wife Sherry of Franklin Peter C. Ames of Lakeport Five�grandchildren and five great-grandchidren. Numerous nieces and nephews Also, the staff and Fred's adopted family at The Golden Crest. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton. A committal service with military honors will be held, Thursday July 6, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 D. W. Highway in Boscawen. Burial will follow next to his wife Becky. Those wishing, may make memorial contributions in Fred's name to the "Activity Fund, The Golden Crest, 29 Baldwin St. Franklin, NH 03235.
