New Hampton Barbara H. Chase Barbara (Hubbard) Chase, 97, a longtime resident of New Hampton, died, Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the Golden Crest Assisted Living Community in Franklin following a short period of failing health. She had been a resident there since November of 2014. Barbara was born on April 17, 1918 in Newburyport, MA the daughter of Harry E. and E. Pearl (Underwood) Hubbard. Barbara attended the Village School, Bristol High School and attended UNH in New Durham for one year. While attending Village School in New Hampton she played in the band and orchestra, acted in many plays and won 1st prize in speaking. She played the saxophone when she attended Bristol High School. She was employed as an assistant Librarian for the Gordon-Nash Library in New Hampton, wrote for the Bristol Enterprise for many years and was a cook at the Community School. She also was a waitress and a chambermaid for the Mansion at the New Hampton School. Barbara was a very active member of the New Hampton Community Church since the age of 14, serving on the finance committee, president of the woman's fellowship and taught Sunday school. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball, tennis, field hockey, skiing and skating. She also was a good friend to many, running errands, and taking them to their doctors appointments whenever needed. She was known as the "Honorary Mayor" of New Hampton. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Harold T. Chase who died in 1998, and by her two grandchildren, Marianne Hackett and Scott Hackett. Her family includes: Her daughters: Gwendolyn C. Hackett of Franklin Candace P. Skurnik and her husband Jacob of Columbia, MD Her sons: Lawrence H. Chase and his wife Beverly of Concord Wade L. Chase and his wife Carol Ann of Colorado Springs, CO 14 grandchildren 30 great grandchildren 10 great-great grandchildren According to Barbara's wishes there will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the New Hampton Community Church, 14 Church Lane, in New Hampton, NH. Burial will follow the service in the New Hampton Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to the New Hampton Community Church, 14 Church Lane, New Hampton, NH 03256.
