John J. Carr

Obituary John J. Carr peacefully passed away in his grandson’s residence at Fort Dix, New Jersey on Sunday October 3, 2021. John was born in Providence, R.I. on April 14, 1931, the first son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Ryan) Carr. He grew up in Johnston, R.I. and graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence, R.I. in 1949. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served 6 years in the submarine service during the Korean Conflict. He married Norma (Laboissonniere) in 1953 and relocated to Franklin, NH in 1956 where he accepted employment at the former International Packings Corp (IPC) in Bristol, NH as a rubber chemist, advancing to Director of Research before the company was acquired by Freudenberg/NOK (FNGP) in the early eighties. Prior to his retirement from FNGP in 1995, he was Manager of Purchasing and Development. He provided consulting services on rubber related matters to several companies before permanently retiring. During his business career, John traveled extensively both domestically and overseas to Europe and Asia representing the company in technical and purchasing related matters. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society, The Boston Rubber Group and The Rubber Manufacturers Association as company technical representative. He published a wide variety of rubber related technical articles during his career. John was a life member and former Trustee of the Franklin, NH Lodge of Elks and a 4th degree member and former Financial Secretary of the Knights of Columbus. For 13 years, he was chairman of the St. Paul’s CYO Basketball program and one of the organizers and a manager in the Twin Rivers Babe Ruth Baseball program. John spent his retirement years in Florida enjoying golf and participating in many community events in Colony Cove in Ellenton, FL with his close friend and companion Johanna DiNatale. John is survived by his sons John Jr. and his wife Mary of Canton, MA, Mark and his wife Estervina of Nashua, NH, daughters Sandra and husband Dick Weddell of Hampton, NH and Jacquelyn (Jackie) and her husband Steve MacDonald of Franklin, NH; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Daniel, Elizabeth, Lauren, Eric, Adam, Julian and Jarrod; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Edward and wife Belinda of Manchester, NH. He was pre-deceased a great grandson Austin MacDonald. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Parish in Belmont, NH at 11:00 am, on Saturday, October 9, 2021. A committal service with military honors will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Parish in Belmont, NH, The American Cancer Society, or that National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
