Franklin
Virginia Elizabeth (Smith) Haas, age 88, of Franklin, NH passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Peabody Place in Franklin. She was born on April 25, 1935, in New Hampton, NH. She graduated from Laconia High School in 1951 and the Laconia School of Nursing in 1955. Virginia received her BSN from New England College in 1978. She married her husband Donald in 1960 and together they raised their family in Franklin before eventually building a house on the property of her childhood home in New Hampton.
Virginia was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia H. Bronson of Wilmington, CT, Deborah L. Freni and her husband Joseph of Franklin, Sharon H. Sorette and her husband Bruce of Epsom, and her grandchildren Jeff Seavey of Penacook, Dylan Freni of York, ME, Connor Haas of Somersworth, Austin Sorette of Wells, ME, MacKenzie Sorette of Concord, Callum Bronson of Burlington, VT and Nikki Bronson of Raleigh, NC, along with her four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Thomas Smith and wife Muriel, Charles Smith and wife Gerry, Robert Smith and wife Donna and Richard Smith.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald T. Haas in 2021, her son Bradley T. Haas in 2023, her father Raymond Smith, her mother Dorothea (Gage) Smith, and her brother Raymond “Skip” Smith.
Virginia dedicated her life to serving others as a nurse at Franklin Hospital in Franklin, NH. She was also a former member of the BPW of Franklin and the Franklin Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and helped in the Sunday School. She was most recently a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanbornton.
In her free time, Virginia enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading. She was known for her kind and generous spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
